New York Jets cornerback DJ Reed continues to get praise as the best cornerback that is a pending free agent in the NFL during the 2025 offseason.
Pro Football Focus is the latest to do so.
Reed, 28, is a set to hit the open market in March. Paired with Sauce Gardner, some believe these two are the top defensive back duo in the NFL.
Reed might need replacing in New York because reportedly several teams are interested in him. In addition, PFF has praised his talents by naming him the sixth-best pending free agent regardless of position in the NFL. This same slot made him PFF’s top-ranked cornerback as well.
In order to get to that placement for Reed, PFF referenced Reed’s “lockdown percentage.”
In terms of Reed’s standard statistics, he recorded 64 tackles, including four for loss, 11 passes defended and one sack in 14 games played in 2024.
The outlet’s breakdown on Reed’s upcoming free agency can be found below:
Reed is set to enter free agency after earning his sixth straight season-long 70.0-plus PFF overall grade. His 70.1 coverage grade in 2024 ranked 31st among qualifying cornerbacks. He excelled in PFF’s advanced metrics, boasting a 51.28% lockdown percentage.
