Jay Glazer has the scoop.
Now that the Jets have their head coach and general manager in place, the biggest decision the team must make this offseason is whether or not to bring back quarterback Aaron Rodgers in 2025. NFL insider Jay Glazer reports the team has reached its decision, and Rodgers has been informed that he will not be back.
Big scoopage: Aaron Rodgers flew back to New Jersey last week to meet with the Jets about his future with the team, only to be told that the team was moving on from him. If that means that he will be a June 1 designation that allows him to sign with any team in the league on…

Frankly I think this was the only sensible move the Jets could make. The Rodgers trade was nothing short of catastrophic for the Jets. The team used up an enormous amount of resources to both acquire and try to microwave a contender around the future Hall of Fame quarterback, and it completely backfired. Of course, the first season wasn’t Rodgers’ fault. He suffered an Achilles injury, and the Jets limped to a 7-10 finish. However, the team won only 5 games in Rodgers’ return season, and the quarterback showed steep signs of decline.
There really wasn’t much of a compelling argument to bring Rodgers back. The team would add $37.5 million to present and future salary cap obligations for a 41 year old quarterback who can’t consistently play at an elite level anymore. Starting a new era also makes it logical for the Jets to turn the page on a symbolic level.
We will have plenty more on this in the days and weeks ahead.
