There were a lot of ways the acquisition of quarterback Aaron Rodgers on the New York Jets could go. On the positive side, it was plausible he reverted back to some level resembling his 2021 and 2022 MVP seasons. On the negative side, it was plausible that he continued to decline and that the move would be viewed as a mistake.
But one option that I don’t think ever crossed my mind would be that he would play badly enough that the below tweet would ever exist.
Days after the Jets’ loss to the Broncos, Woody Johnson suggested to the coaches that they bench Aaron Rodgers.
Joe Douglas and the coaches were stunned at the recommendation and talked him out of it.@DMRussini and @ZackBlatt on a contentious meeting ⤵️https://t.co/9fdEyPrYhm pic.twitter.com/aD8kYE6trR

And, yet, it does due to recent reporting by Zack Rosenblatt and Dianna Russini of The Athletic.
Whether this report is accurate is unclear. However, it merely existing and being even remotely plausible is as clear a sign as any that the last two years have gone anything but according to plan.
I’d say “Same old Jets,” but this feels extreme for even this moribund franchise.
