The New York Jets won’t have Aaron Rodgers for all of mandatory minicamp. That news has sparked speculation about what’s going on behind the scenes for Robert Saleh’s squad.
On Tuesday, Saleh called it an “unexcused” absence for Rodgers.
“Aaron and I spoke before OTAs started,” Saleh said. “He’s been very good in communication. He’s been here the entire time. It’s unexcused, but he had an event that was very important to him, which he communicated.”
Roughly 24 hours later, Saleh changed his tune on Rodgers’ absence. He claims he’s on the same page with his veteran quarterback.
“Aaron and I are on the exact same page,” Saleh told reporters Wednesday. “There’s no issue between Aaron or his teammates, for that matter. We addressed it yesterday. It’s more of an issue for everyone outside the building than it is inside.”
What makes this situation so odd is the public has no idea where Rodgers is at this moment.
Missing three practices shouldn’t derail the Jets’ 2024 season. However, the last thing this franchise needed was another distraction.
After going 7-10 last season, it’s imperative that New York has a bounce-back year. If not, Saleh will most likely be searching for a new job.
