With Aaron Rodgers choosing to skip Jets mandatory minicamp for Aaron Rodgers reasons, its given backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor an opportunity to step up and Robert Saleh is loving it.
Speaking to the media, New York’s HC couldn’t say enough about how much of wonderful addition Taylor has been to the team.
“He’s been fantastic,” Saleh said. “Elite human, elite leader. The speed at which he’s grasping the offense has been pretty cool. He’s calling two-minute [offense] already. … Really appreciate the dialogue that we’ve all been able to have with him.”
Taylor is widely-regarded as a pro’s pro and a guy who garners a lot of respect in the locker room. He spoke to reporters at minicamp as well where his leadership and veteran presence shined through:
I think we did some good things, but there’s always stuff to clean up. Overall, I like the way the guys came out and competed. There’s always room for improvement. You’ll never hear me say, ‘Oh this was great. On to the next.’ Even in blowout wins and days the offense dominates the field, there are opportunities to get better. That’s how you have to look at it, with a critical eye. We’ll continue to keep doing that and continue to keep sharpening the sword as we head into training camp.
The juxtaposition between Tyrod and Aaron couldn’t be more stark right now. But when Rodgers returns, he’ll assume the role of team leader as the Jets begin their hunt for the second Super Bowl in franchise history.
