With Greg Zuerlein struggling and now also injured, we need to familiarize ourselves with these guys:
New legs in New York: The #Jets are signing kickers Riley Patterson and Spencer Shrader to the practice squad, sources tell me and @MikeGarafolo.
They’ll give Greg Zuerlein time to get his knee right. Patterson or Shrader will kick Thursday night.

Patterson has an 88 percent success rate on field goals at the NFL level. In 15 games last year, he missed four kicks. However, his longest was only 53 yards.
Shrader is a rookie who has only played in one NFL game, in which he made all three of his extra point attempts but didn’t attempt a field goal. His record in college was not that good but he did make a school record 54-yarder at Notre Dame.
UPDATE:
We won’t be seeing Zuerlein for at least four weeks, but this might not be the last we’ve seen of him:
Jets placed kicker Greg Zuerlein on IR and signed kickers Spencer Shrader and Riley Patterson to their practice squad.

UPDATE #2
The Jets confirmed the moves and also made a few more:
We’ve made the following roster moves:
◼️ Placed Greg Zuerlein on IR
◼️ Signed Marcelino McCrary-Ball to the active roster
◼️ Released DS Jaylen Key from the practice squad
◼️ Signed K Spencer Shrader & K Riley Patterson to the practice squad— New York Jets (@nyjets) October 30, 2024

Marcelino-Ball will be needed for cover this weekend with CJ Mosley and Chazz Surratt on the injured list. Hopefully Surratt can still play, but Mosley looks set to miss this one. Marcelino-Ball could not remain on the practice squad and play this week because he’s already been elevated three times.
