A couple of traditional Thanksgiving Day matchups are on tap this afternoon
Week 13 of the 2024 NFL season gets underway with a couple of traditional Thanksgiving Day afternoon games.
At 12:30 pm EST the 10-1 Detroit Lions host the 4-7 Chicago Bears in what looks like a mismatch on paper. However, divisional rivalry games are often unpredictable, and the Lions might be overlooking a bad Bears team that has lost five straight games. Throw in the short week to prepare and who knows, maybe this game turns out closer than anticipated.
At 4:30 pm the 4-7 Dallas Cowboys host the 2-9 New York Giants in a sad matchup between two teams with much better pasts than presents. The Cowboys come into this game off a victory over the Washington Commanders last week. Prior to that win the Cowboys had lost five straight. The Giants come into this game losers of six straight. This is not exactly a clash of NFL titans here. To make matters worse, each team will be starting backup quarterbacks. Two bad teams with nothing but pride to play for, each starting a backup quarterback – this has the makings of an epically bad football game.
It’s Thanksgiving football, but there doesn’t appear on paper to be much worth watching this afternoon. Nonetheless, Thanksgiving football is an American tradition, and no doubt many will be watching. If you’re among them, enjoy the games.
