After weeks of speculation, it seems we’ve finally learned what Aaron Rodgers’ unexcused absence from Jets mandatory minicamp was for.
According to Connor Hughes of SNY, Rodgers was a no-show due to a preplanned trip to Egypt that he booked during his Achilles rehab.
“He’s long admired Egyptian culture and scheduled the visit for what was believed to be after the offseason programs,” Hughes reported.
“The Jets were made aware of the trip when the official minicamp dates were announced (June 11, 12) and overlapped with Rodgers’ plans. While an unexcused absence, the team is not concerned that this will impact Rodgers’ season.”
Adding, “They wanted him at minicamp but were understanding of how important this trip was for him.”

Several players on the Jets roster didn’t seem too upset about Rodgers missing minicamp because of his attendance during the voluntary portion of OTAs.
But the way the situation was handled by the organization created something of a circus outside of the building.
New York went about it like it did because Jets brass “did not want to set a precedent for players missing mandatory workouts for pre-planned trips.” Rodgers is expected to be back in full for the entirety of the team’s training camp.
