New York Jets All-Pro Wide Receiver Davante Adams names the West Coast a favorite this offseason if the team decides to release him. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Adams will likely move on and the Rams, Chargers and 49ers could be the first three teams he could look at while exploring his free-agent options. Everyone should assume Adams is a free agent being that there have been several rumors the team will be moving on from him. As of this posting, the Jets have already told veteran Aaron Rodgers they are moving so it’s almost a guarantee the team will release Adams as soon as the new league year begins.
Originally selected in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft, the Packers legend spent the majority of his NFL tenure in Green Bay before attempting to find a role with the Las Vegas Raiders. Adams came to New York simply for Rodgers to see if both could lead the Jets to a Super Bowl that experiment didn’t last very long. The six-time Pro Bowler still led the league in receiving touchdowns in Las Vegas before making his move to New York so he could be looking for the right fit and LA might be the move for the future Hall of Famer. Ultimately, Adams could request a release, especially since the new regime of head coach Aaron Glenn has yet to contact him regarding his future.
West Coast Time? Davante Adams Names His Preferred Trade Destinations – Chargers, 49ers Likely Highest Bidders
Star Power for Justin Herbert
The plan for the Los Angeles Chargers is to get a superstar wide receiver for quarterback Justin Herbert. Head Coach Jim Harbaugh did well in his first year back in the league but could have done better after admitting he didn’t put Herbert in a good environment this past postseason. With that, they need a reliable pass catcher to help alongside Ladd McConkey who is the only guy with a dependable set of hands. Quentin Johnston is looking like his rookie self with no improvements happening anytime soon so the team should probably consider releasing him.
However, the team will still need to sign a couple of receivers in the backend along with drafting at least one in this year’s draft. Herbert is not getting any younger as the years go by so the Chargers should take advantage of the great financial situation they’re in since they have enough cap space to make immediate moves. Joshua Palmer probably won’t return next season but Davante Adams would be the significant upgrade that could possibly see the best in Herbert that no one has seen yet.
Deebo Samuel’s Replacement?
According to several reports, the San Francisco 49ers are granting star wideout Deebo Samuel to look for a trade partner as the two parties will move on. After drafting Rickey Pearsall in last year’s draft, the 49ers have plenty of talent to help Brock Purdy’s chances to return to the Super Bowl one day. Brandon Aiyuk will return but they need another upgrade in their receiver department either way to boost Jauan Jennings. Adams’ arrival in San Francisco may overshadow Jennings but the team will do everything it takes to win ball games.
The good news is they could probably pull away on a one-year deal for Adams as he probably won’t expect big-time money anytime soon.
