With fifteen points in his last eight games coming into this past weekend, winger Cam Squires is proving the Devils signing him last summer was well-earned.
Last summer, the Devils signed Cam Squires after a 72 point performance for Cape Breton of the QMJHL in his D+1. After a slow start, Squires is now on pace to exceed that total with a torrid hot streak of two points per game in the last month. Squires is also known for his strong community work and apparently some good-natured fun with his teammates.

Squires will join the Devils organization after his season ends. Unfortunately, with Utica almost certainly out of the playoff picture, his AHL debut will likely have to wait until next season. Hopefully, Squires will fare better than some of the other recent Devils prospects, who have struggled making the jump from juniors. With his offense, well-roundedness, and leadership skills, the winger certainly will have his opportunity.
Around the Pool:
- Devils prospect Herman Traff and Team Sweden lost in a shutout in the bronze medal game to Czechia in the World Juniors tournament. Traff had two goals in the tournament, both in an earlier game against Czechia. Check out his second goal.
MAKE THAT 2 for HERMAN TRAFF!!!!!!!

- Utica got creamed on Saturday in a 7-2 shelling at home against the Belleville Senators. Goaltenders Issac Poulter (four goals) and Jeremy Brodeur (three goals) split time in net during the beatdown. Simon Nemec and Adam Beckman both picked up assists, continuing their strong offensive play, as of late.
- Per the Rome Sentinel, Jeremy Brodeur was called up as Goaltender Nico Daws was unavailable for maintenance work, whatever that means.
- Defensive prospect Chase Cheslock is quietly putting together a quality season for St. Thomas in the NCAA and has eight assists in twenty games, good enough for 2nd in points for the team’s defensive core. Here’s one of Cheslock’s latest assists, from a very nice pass and zone entry.

- Goaltender Jakub Malek recorded his third shutout of the season after stopping five (that’s not a typo) five total shots in a 5-0 defeat of last place Jukurit. Has a team in a top league ever scored as many goals as shots allowed in a game before? I don’t know, but it would be interesting to research.
Jakub Málek records his 3rd #Ilves shutout of the season in unusual circumstances. ⛔️
The #NJDevils prospect only had to make 5 (yes, just 5!) saves in the game.
Hats off to the defence for their efficiency and limiting scoring chances. #Liiga #CeskyHokej https://t.co/idspdWuBiQ
