An Erik Haula deflection, a Nathan Bastian shorthanded goal, a Paul Cotter goal and some Jacob Markstrom excellence pushed the Devils past the Senators in a 3-1 victory Thursday. [Devils NHL]
Pretty good!
Last year in Vegas, Paul Cotter scored seven goals in 76 games. With the #NJDevils, he has five goals in seven games.

Re-drafting the 2021 NHL class, and Luke Hughes is looking good: “The toolkit Luke Hughes has is rather special. He’s an elite skater with size, who scored nearly 50 points as a rookie in the NHL. His defending and pure hockey sense are not the most inspiring elements of his play, but he has game-breaking abilities and his pure athleticism should allow him to be a sufficient pro defender. He projects as a true No. 1 defenseman.” [The Athletic ($)]

A big deal in Dallas:
Jake Oettinger officially signs an eight-year extension with the #stars carrying a $8.25M AAV.
It’s a good time to be a very good NHL goaltender.

Some interesting analysis of the NHL by age, height, weight and nationality: [The Athletic ($)]
“(Filip) Gustavsson’s goal, scored with nine seconds left in the Wild’s 4-1 win at the St. Louis Blues, made him the 15th goalie score in the NHL, but just the 10th to do so by shooting it into an empty net (the others were the last to touch an own-goal). It also marked the third straight season that a goalie has shot and scored into an empty net, something that never had happened before in the League. All of which begs the question: Are goalies ready to break out as goal-scorers?” [NHL.com]
