Although nothing official has been announced, initial reports are the injury to Arseni Gritsyuk may not be as catastrophic as originally feared.

According to Hockey News Hub, Gritsyuk will miss only about three weeks due to the injury. If confirmed by his club, that would be excellent news, considering early reports described the injury as “brutal-looking” and Gritsyuk hobbled off the ice into the locker room. Gritsyuk has 16 goals and 37 points in 44 games, a 22 goal and 51 point pace, which would have both been career highs. The injury will likely prevent Gritsyuk from reaching those numbers, but recovery is most important as the scoring winger is rumored to be joining the Devils as early as next season.
Around the Pool:
- Goaltender Mikhail Yegorov earned his first collegiate victory in his 2nd start, stopping 19 shots in a 7-2 Boston Terriers win over New Hampshire. Teammate Cole Eiserman said this of Yegorov.
“He’s got those eyes; it’s pretty cool to see as a player in front of him. He’s really locked in and got the crazy eyes going.”
Will Crazy Eyes Yegorov stick as a nickname? It’s too early to tell.
- The Utica Comets lost 4-3 to Belleville on Saturday. Ryan Schmelzer, Adam Beckman and Nolan Foote scored the goals for the Comets. Simon Nemec and Chase Stillman both picked up assists. Stillman now has three points in his last five games, corresponding with a bump up in ice time playing more often alongside winger Nolan Foote. Goaltender Isaac Poulter was credited for the loss, stopping 31 of 35.
- On Friday night, winger Josh Filmon potted two goals against the Worcestor Railers in a 4-3 Adirondack loss. It was Filmon’s third two-goal night in his last seven games. The winger is up to twenty points now for the Thunder, a tie for second on the team.
- Defenseman Simon Nemec represented the Utica Comets in the AHL All-Star game this past weekend. The game was still in progress when this article was written, but Nemec did earn at least one secondary assist on this monster goal by Brett Murray.
Brett Murray, you have got to be kidding me! Absolutely gross stuff from the @AmerksHockey star for the best goal of the night and Atlantic takes the lead! #AHL #AHLAllStar pic.twitter.com/R7aEFZrlZ6

- Congratulations are in order for forward prospect Samu Salminen and the Denver Pioneers for tying the NCHC record for most goals in a game with eleven. Salminen factored into four of those eleven goals with a goal and three assists. With the offensive outburst, Salminen has reached his NCAA career high in points with 19 in only 26 games. Here’s a look at Salminen’s goal early on in the game.
