Filmon fell to the Thunder. Will Chase Stillman be next?
Stillman Struggling
Four goals. Nine assists. Thirteen points. A -30 in 68 games. Feel however you wish about plus/minus, those are some ugly numbers. They are also Chase Stillman’s season’s projections according to Elite Prospects. Much like fellow prospect Josh Filmon, Chase Stillman has struggled this year along with the rest of the Comets. The energy winger has tallied only one goal and three assists in sixteen games and has been relegated to the fourth line.
The Devils promoted Stillman’s linemate Nathan Legare for three games, obviously finding him a better fit than the struggling prospect. It is not as though Legare is some offensive power house. Legare has three goals and no assists in 18 games for the Comets, but has been steady enough in all three zones to eat up some minutes at the highest level on a recall basis.
Stillman did miss a few games this season with an injury. It is impossible for us to know whether that is still nagging, but something seems off. If it is not an injury, perhaps a stint with the Thunder may wake up the former first rounder. At 21 years-old, Stillman still has a few seasons to advance his game to the next level. Setbacks happen with player development. While the demotion has not worked out great for Josh Filmon thus far, a chance for Stillman to find his game higher up in the lineup in the ECHL for a few games may be the shot in the arm that he needs.
Around the Pool:
- The Channel One Cup has begun in Russia. With no Devils prospects participating and the KHL at a break, there is no update on any Russian prospects.
- Goaltender Nico Daws has returned from a minor injury, stopping 22 of 23 shots in a heartbreaking 1-0 loss to Syracuse on Saturday. With the L, the Comets drop to 5-13-1-2 on the season, clinging to a one point lead over the worst team in the AHL, the Henderson Silver Knights.
- Winger Cam Squires remains red hot in the Q and has now reached over the point per game mark with 27 points in his first 25 contests, including this beauty.

- Samu Salminen had a heck of a night. With a sudden hot streak after my post last week, the University of Denver forward is starting to turn his season around and now has twelve points in eighteen games.
Last night Samu Salminen became the sixth DU player to score two short-handed goals in the same game in program history and the fourth to do so in the same period–Tyler Bozak was the last to do so in the 3rd period on Nov. 4, 2007 at Minnesota.#GoPios pic.twitter.com/VL2u0MzxlD

- Charlie Leddy is back playing for Quinnipiac after what appeared to be a serious injury turned out to only cost him a short stint out of the lineup. As a defensive defenseman, Leddy has four points in fourteen games and is on pace for his most productive collegiate season offensively.
- Jakub Malek continues to impress in the Liiga leading the league amongst goaltenders who have played at least twelve games in both GAA (2.06) and Sv% (.918).
- This is an older post but it’s a good read on Ethan Edwards’s contributions to the University of Michigan this season. Edwards has seven points in eighteen games in an increased defensive role on the blueline.
Returning this season as an alternate captain for the second year, @umichhockey senior defenseman Ethan Edwards has contributed immensely to the Wolverines’ recent triumphs.@kenziemielke has more on Edwards’ role:https://t.co/VLFx4I0VlV

- Lastly, Viktor Hurtig has scored his first goal for Michigan Tech. The defenseman has two points in fifteen games this season.
