With most of the seasons coming to an end for Devils prospects, much of the buzz is who will sign this summer — or not. This post takes a look at some of that.
Here’s a look at some of the latest buzz, for whatever it’s worth.
Will they, won’t they?
Arseni Gritsyuk
SKA has recently allowed Montreal Canadiens draft pick Ivan Demidov end his contract a few months early to come to North America, so the buzz for Devils fans immediately shot up surrounding teammate Arseni Gritsyuk.

That’s a good sign, but it may not mean that Gritsyuk will be on the Devils roster this season. Hockey News Hub posted this follow-up.
Per his agent, #NJDevils prospect Arseni Gritsyuk will sign his ELC in the upcoming days and spend next season in the NHL.

So, right now, it’s all still wait and see. As I’m writing this article on Sunday, it may all be resolved by the time it publishes, but for now, we wait.
Shane LaChance
Boston University’s season came to an end with a bad 6-2 loss in the finals to Western Michigan. According to Scott Wheeler, the expectation is that the big forward Shane Lachance will sign with the Devils sometime this summer.
Scott notes in here that “expectation” is that Shane Lachance is turning pro with New Jersey.

Other Prospects
Finnish winger Lenni Hameenaho has some buzz about likely signing this summer, but that seems to be analysis, not anything concrete. Baie-Comeau Drakkar’s center Matyas Melovsky is still playing the playoffs in the QMJHL, so there’s nothing to report there. The Devils are likely to lose OHL forward Cole Brown, who has committed to Notre Dame, but still could theoretically sign him. Lastly, there seems to be little to report on whether center Samu Salminen will return for his senior season or sign with the Devils.
Around the Pool:
- In the NCAA, Boston University made it to the final game, but seemed unprepared for the speed and fore check of Western Michigan, losing 6-2 with an empty net. That should not diminish the incredible season Goaltender Mikhail Yegorov had turning Boston University’s year around. The Terriers have a lot to be proud of.

- Known more for his defensive efforts, Ethan Edwards has had a good start to his professional career with three assists in six games for the Utica Comets.
- As expected, Cam Squires has joined the Comets for their final games.

- Speaking of the Utica Comets, the team hosted their Pucks for Paws event recently. Here are some good doggos that attended.
