The preseason hype machine is warming up.
The rookie “showcase,” the media tours, the honorary first pitches — it’s September and the NHL’s preseason hype machine is warming up.
Islanders Things
- Anders Lee was one of three local NHLers (Brett Pesce is a Devil now?!) to throw out a first pitch. He missed the target. [Isles]
- Go “behind the scenes” of Bo Horvat on the media tour and see his whiteboard drawing of…like a bunny or rodent or something. (Photo 12 of 19) [Isles]
- It was a pretty quiet offseason, sure, but that doesn’t mean they can’t give it the “three takeaways” treatment. (Let’s do better than that: Who can come up with 10?) [Newsday]
- Who can best understand the Isles’ Russian goalies? Mat Barzal. [THN]
- Sports Science (okay sure) with…Johnny Boychuk! [Isles]
Elsewhere
- For year two, the PWHL has team names. New York will be called the Sirens, which is both cheeky and cool. The logo is underwhelming though. [THN]
- Boston’s team will be called the Fleet, which is unfortunate and calls to mind one of the Boston Garden successor’s early naming rights sponsors, Fleet Bank Or Enema. (Don’t know what happened to Fleet Bank, but was probably bought by another bank that was then bought by another bank then bought by a bowels irrigator.) Boston’s logo is a kinda cool sideways Whalers logo though. [AM NY]
- The Gaudreaus funeral was as heart wrenching as you’d expect. [Sportsnet | TSN]
- The Kraken will sign Adam Larsson to a four-year extension. [Sportsnet]
- Sidney Crosby will…surely sign an extension with the Penguins…right? [NHL | TSN]
- Jake DeBrusk is looking forward to establishing chemistry with Elias Pettersson. [Sportsnet]
- The Utah jerseys look like the attire on a mid-’90s hockey video game that failed to secure a licensing agreement. [Sportsnet]
- In which Stan Bowman has to explain yet again that he holds no grudge against Doug Armstrong. [TSN]
- Victor Hedman believes the Lightning are still a contender. [NHL]
- Sam Reinhart believes the Panthers can repeat. [NHL]
