NHL Predictions
Winnipeg Jets vs Vancouver Canucks
Head-to-Head: Jets 0-0 Canucks
Time: 8:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST)
TV: SNP, TSN3
This will be the first of three meetings this season between the Winnipeg Jets and Vancouver Canucks. The Jets took two of three versus the Canucks a season ago, winning 4-2 on February 17th in Vancouver and 4-2 on April 18th in Winnipeg. Sandwiched in between those two victories was a 5-0 shutout loss on March 9th in Vancouver.
Winnipeg has won five of their last six meetings with the Canucks, scoring four or more goals in five of those games. Mark Scheifele has four goals and three assists in his last four games versus the Canucks, including a hat trick back on December 29th, 2022. For the Canucks, Elias Pettersson has recorded four goals and six assists in his last ten games versus the Jets.
Vancouver Canucks Coming Off of Needed Statement Win
On Saturday night, the Canucks picked up one of their most important wins of the season in Toronto. Not only did they halt a four game losing streak but they picked up a vital two points despite their circumstances surrounding the game being extremely challenging. After their Friday night loss in Carolina, the team was unable to fly to Toronto and had to spend an extra evening in Raleigh. After awaking and needing to travel to Toronto, their flight was then delayed and the team arrived at their hotel via police escort. It was hectic day but the Canucks were able to stay focused and get the job done.
As far as the game was concerned, the Canucks stymied the Leafs and ended up with a 3-0 victory. Brock Boeser scored the winning goal just 31 seconds into the game, and Kevin Lankinen made 20 saves to secure the shutout.
Connor Hellebuyck Shuts the Door Again
Even after winning his second Vezina Trophy a year ago, the Winnipeg Jets couldn’t have expected this level of play from Connor Hellebuyck through the first half of the season. After defeating the Colorado Avalanche 3-0 on Saturday night, Hellebuyck now has as many shutouts as he does regulation losses (6) this season. It is an incredible story that continues to build a new chapter seemingly every time he takes the net. Hellebuyck has lowered his GAA to a miniscule 2.02 and his save percentage has risen to a sparkling .928%. With performances such as his night in and night out, the Jets have a fantastic opportunity to push for their division title and perhaps a deep playoff run this spring.
NHL Prediction – Jets vs Canucks
With how these two teams have been playing lately, this should be a low-scoring, hotly contested game. The Jets have allowed just four goals in their past three games. Also, the Canucks have allowed just four, and have scored just four times. A key for the Canucks will be to stay disciplined and not allow the top ranked powerplay unit of Winnipeg to get going. If they can give their outstanding goalie a lead to work with it will be problematic for Vancouver. Meanwhile, the Jets will look to capitalize on a shaky Vancouver defense group (when Quinn Hughes is not on the ice) as they lean heavier than any other team in the league on their #1 defenseman. This will be a game that is in the balance right until the end. However, Vancouver will skate away with an ugly, gritty, road victory in this one.
Prediction: Canucks win 3-2
Prop Bet of the Night
In a game with a scarce amount of offense we are searching for a value prop in this game. Gambling sites have Cole Perfetti at +440 as an anytime goal scorer in this game. In his last time out versus the Canucks, Perfetti found the back of the net twice enroute to a Jets victory. Look for him to find the net in this one.
