NHL Predictions
Dallas Stars at Winnipeg Jets
Head-to-Head: Stars 1-1 Jets
Time: 8 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT)
TV: NHL Network
The Dallas Stars and the Winnipeg Jets face-off in a critical Central Division battle as the Stars aim to cut into Winnipeg’s eight-point lead with 18 games left to play. The teams split each of their two previous meetings, both winning on home ice.
Winnipeg came away with a 4-1 win in November, scoring all four goals in the first two periods. Former Dallas Star Vladislav Namestnikov was one of three Jets to collect multiple points with a goal and an assist. Roope Hintz scored Dallas’s only goal.
The Stars returned the favour with a 3-1 win less than a month later. This time, Dallas responded to an early Winnipeg goal with three unanswered and earned the victory during a three-game stand against divisional opponents.
Dallas and Winnipeg will play two more games during the regular season. Dallas will need the wins to have a shot at repeating as Western Conference champs. Winnipeg can distance itself even further from the other elite teams in the West. Who gets it done? NHL Predictions dives in.
The Stars Story
Dallas embarks on a brief two-game road trip in the Central Division. The Stars will continue from Winnipeg, Manitoba to Denver, Colorado to face the Avalanche on Sunday.
Roope Hintz was a big part of both games against the Jets for Dallas. Yet, the Stars will be without him on Friday due to injury. Head coach Pete DeBoer told the media on Thursday that Hintz may be available to return to action against Colorado, depending on how his skating sessions go.
Roope Hintz will skate today and tomorrow, then the team will make a determination about his availability against Colorado on Sunday, says Pete DeBoer.

This time, Dallas has the guys to pull together a strong lineup without him, likely leaning on recent trade acquisitions Mikko Rantanen and Mikael Granlund. Rantanen has already made a massive impact, scoring in both games with Dallas and picking up three points. Granlund finally scored his first goal with Dallas during Sunday’s win over Vancouver.
Everyone has started to contribute offensively, but Dallas needs to avoid falling into an early hole like it has against other contenders in the West.
The Jets Story
Winnipeg has spent all season near the top of the NHL. The Jets enter play on Friday night tied with the Washington Capitals for first-place in the league with 94 points. While Winnipeg has been on fire this year, this game could be coming at a great time for Dallas.
The Jets have lost four of their last seven games, and most of those were not against particularly good teams. They were also the team against whom former Star Logan Stankoven made his Carolina Hurricanes debut and scored a goal.
However, Winnipeg does have many of the top units in the NHL, leading in power play percentage, save percentage, and goaltending and placing third in goals per game. Forward Kyle Connor leads the offence. He is currently tied with Boston’s David Pastrnak with 81 points, the fifth-most in the league. Mark Scheifele is also among the top 15.
And of course, goaltender Connor Hellebyuck has been a superstar. He has eight more wins than any other goalie in the NHL and allows just under two goals per game. He has started both games against the Stars and allowed three goals.
NHL Prediction
Needless to say, this game is immensely important for both teams. A Dallas win could give the Stars slim hopes of catching Winnipeg, while a Jets win would put them a step closer to sealing the conference title. They both have similar numbers on paper, with special teams holding crucial importance. However, just as the case was in the first two meetings, whichever goaltender outplays the other will see his team on top at the end of the game.
Prediction: Jets win 4-2.
Prop Bets of the Night
Rantanen (+190) has a good shot to continue his goal streak and has picked up 28 points in 29 career games against Winnipeg. Forward Jason Robertson (+155) has nine goals in 13 games against the Jets and leads the Stars with 28 this season. As alluded to above, Connor (+140) and Scheifele (+160) lead the Jets in goals scored this season.
