Ilya Sorokin kept the Isles in a close game, and two goals from Anders Lee helped them take a point in Edmonton.
Ilya Sorokin played great tonight, making 39 saves to keep the New York Islanders in the game. He set the stage for Anders Lee’s two third period goals that would tie the game and let the Islanders earn a point for getting the game to overtime.
Kyle Palmieri continued to be a bright spot, picking up two points tonight, and while the team has fought hard despite significant injuries, Connor McDavid is just tough to beat – he factored in on every Edmonton goal tonight.

First Period
Casey Cizikas was called for tripping, sending the Oilers to the power play. On the PP, the Oilers had a few good chances, Zach Hyman misfiring in the slot, and Noah Dobson blocking a big shot from Evan Bouchard, but the Islanders were able to kill it.
Ilya Sorokin saved a Connor McDavid shot, and then Stuart Skinner saved JG Pageau’s shot at the other end.
Then, the Oilers were called for too many men, and the Isles couldn’t convert on the power play.
Sorokin stopped chances from Draisaitl and McDavid, but Edmonton would start the second on the power play with Scott Mayfield going to the box for intereference with less than a second left.
Second Period
Leon Draisaitl scored on that power play, giving the Oilers a 1-0 lead. Then, Adam Henrique went to the box for holding the stick, but Edmonton was able to kill the Islanders’ power play.
Then, Maxim Tsyplakov took a shot that got loose under Skinner, but he was able to grab it.
Then, Brock Nelson got the puck to Tsyplakov, who passed up a shot in the slot to dish the puck over to Kyle Palmieri, who put the puck past Skinner to tie the game.

Third Period
Sorokin made a big save but then Bouchard scored to make it 2-1.
Bo Horvat put a shot off the bar that he thought was in, and Sorokin made another save on Bouchard.
Oliver Wahlstrom was tripped up on a play where Ryan Nugent-Hopkins got the puck over to McDavid, who made it 3-1.
A couple of minutes later, Anders Lee got the Islanders within one, picking up a Ryan Pulock rebound and putting it past Skinner.

Patrick Roy pulled Sorokin for the extra skater with around 3 minutes left, and then Lee tied it up with 2:40 left off a tic-tac-toe play from Pageau and Palmieri.

OT
Sorokin made some good saves in OT, but ultimately Draisaitl would win it for the Oilers 4-3.
